State of Origin: Blues left marooned

State of Origin goes down to a decider

The sea of blue shirts, blue tops and blue scarves were left with maroon noses after last night’s second State of Origin game at ANZ Stadium after NSW went down 18-16 against Queensland.

This now leaves the series nicely poised at one-each with one to go. You can back either NSW or QLD to win with Ladbrokes.

Angry Andrew Johns

Blues legend and NRL immortal Andrew Johns went off the boil post game, visibly stunned that the Blues did not target Johnathan Thurston who was obviously injured.

“It’s the dumbest half of football NSW have played. They have all the running, their game plan was perfect,” Johns said.

“Thurston’s shoulder is stuffed — there’s your game plan. You go at him all night. You go at him and then it puts pressure on the defenders on either side.

“They didn’t got him once at all in the second half. I couldn’t believe what I was watching.

“You’ve got a player out there who cannot pick his arm off the ground and they didn’t target his side of the field.”

Epic decider to farewell another legend

One player none too happy with Johns’ comments was veteran five-eighth James Maloney.

“I wouldn’t say dumb footy, I think we lost our way and probably didn’t play how we needed to,” Maloney said, adding “You can’t get bogged down chasing one guy.”

So it’s pretty ironic that the July 12 decider will farewell Thurston with the whole of Queensland cheering those maroon boys on.

Luxbet will give you some good odds on your picks for the final game.
