Snoopy is on the Shiraz
It will be an exciting race at Rosehill on Saturday in the Octagonal Handicap when Snoopy and Shiraz do battle.
At Scone recently Snoopy worked his way up to the line to finish a strong second to Clearly Innocent. The son of Lope de Vega was beaten by the Group 1 Kingsford-Smith Cup winner. However, he now strips fitter for this and is a fan of this distance.
The four-year-old has drawn barrier three with hoop Christian Reith in control.
Shiraz meanwhile, had his last run in mid-February and was a long way back to Winx when he finished ninth in the Group Two Apollo Stakes, beaten by ten lengths.
There will be no Winx, nor Hartnell come Saturday and his trainer Kim Waugh is confident Shiraz will handle the race, particularly with leading Sydney jockey Brenton Avdulla on him.
“He’s well. I’m very happy with the way he’s been coming along. He just needed to freshen up. Most horses do after they run against Winx,” Waugh said.
It will be a tough ask after Snoopy’s fantastic first-up performance and if you take into consideration his second-up record (won and always been placed) plus the fact he loves Rosehill we think Snoopy will be too strong.
