Rachael Murray breaks record
Never panic when you are in the nervous 90s, just ask Shane Watson who back in 2010 was given out for the third time when he hit 90 plus runs, in only 13 months.
Today at Tamworth Jockey Rachael Murray rode into history after becoming the first female hoop to ride 100 winners in a season, when her mount Petrossian took her to the ton with a last-gasp lunge.
Murray had spent the last month sitting on 90-odd winners and the last week on 99, and after the win she told Sky Thoroughbred Central:
“Finally, it is fantastic. Wow, who would have ever thought – and on one of my very old favourites, been so good to me this horse.”
Murray had ridden him in the summer, notching up two wins before this record breaking ride where she surpassed Linda Meech’s record of 86 in 2006-07.
Murray now has seven weeks to push that record tally even further.
