Queensland Oaks 2017: Pygmy a rough shot

Queensland Oaks 2017

With a last start win at Hawkesbury, it’s time for Pygmy to have a crack at the big time in Saturday’s Queensland Oaks after being rated early in her career.

Godolphin Australia is giving the filly a shot at the big time after Impending and Kementari were given a rest by Henty Plumptre.

“She’s quite a long, stringy looking filly, every time John [O’Shea] put the pressure on her she’d cough, or get a temperature, so we never really had a chance to get to the bottom of her in the spring,” Plumptre said.

He reckons she’s a rough chance this weekend, but it should be noted that O’Shea did rate her early in her career.

If she does win, it will give hoop Darren Beadman his last Group 1 winner before James Cummings takes the stable reins on August 1.

The Group 1 Queensland Oaks is a set-weight race for three-year-olds fillies held over a distance of 2400 metres at Eagle Farm Racecourse. It has a total prize pool of $500,000 and was won last year by Provocative.
