West Brom and Huddersfield are joint top of the English Premier League. Now, don’t think for one second this is how it will be, come the end of the season, but it’s great to see the new boys up there; so enjoy it while you can Terriers. In fact, with Southampton visiting the Kirklees Stadium it could be another three points under the belt. Not far off the magic 42 points to survive . . .
Liverpool vs. Arsenal
It looks like Liverpool will still be without Coutinho and his back ‘problem’ (ahem!), while Emre Can and Trent Alexander-Arnold are expected to return to the side, as is Georginio Wijnaldum. Arsenal has Sanchez fit and Koscielny back from suspension – Arsenal fans will be glad to see him back in defence.
“Good memories and bad memories [of Anfield]. Overall we have done well there” – Wenger
These two giants of the EPL have met 50 times so far, with Liverpool up 18 wins to 15. Last season’s opener saw the Scousers travel down to North London, nicking all three points with a 4-3 win. Coutinho played that day, grabbing a brace. Liverpool then did the double over Wenger’s boys, with a 3-1 win at Anfield. Not since 1998 have the Reds won three games in a row against the Gunners, while there have been 17 goals scored in the 90th minute or later.
With Roberto Firmino scoring against Arsenal three times now in four games, we will take him as anytime scorer @ $2.63 with Ladbrokes.
Arsenal was fortunate in their 4-3 win over Leicester, then pretty rubbish in the 1-0 loss to Stoke, so it will be good to have Koscielny back. Sanchez appears to be a want-away striker after refusing to extend his contract with the Gunners, so if he plays, it will be interesting to see how the fans take to him. We know that whenever he plays, he wants to win so keep an eye on his performance on Monday morning (1 am k.o).
They are an outstanding strong side. We need the help of the crowd. Let’s make it really difficult for them” – Klopp
Liverpool banged in four goals for a shot at Champions League football during the week, with Firmino, Mane, and Salah on fire. They will be buoyed by this performance, and you can guarantee the Kop faithful will be behind their side. Games like this are usually full of expectation and don’t deliver, however, with 11 goals scored in their two meetings last season, this will not be a quiet affair.
